Farmers Market 10th Anniversary

The hunt is on for a local artist to put county food firmly on the map as Lincoln Business Improvement Group (BIG) prepares to celebrate the tenth anniversary of Lincoln’s Farmers Market.

Lincoln BIG is hoping to find a pavement artist who can create a giant 3m x 3m illustration that will dominate city square on 2nd October and be a striking focal point for the market.

The city staged its first Farmers Market in 1999, inspired by a highly successful fine food fayre held in the summer.

Since then, the idea of bringing Lincolnshire food and drink producers together on a regular basis has gone from strength to strength, with increasing numbers of people looking to buy local produce.

Lincoln BIG has been key to organising the market since its inception. Chief Executive Matt Corrigan says:

“People have become a lot more discerning in their tastes over the last ten years. When we began people were less concerned about where there food came from, but with high profile national and local campaigns everyone’s becoming a bit more selective in their purchases. “When we started the market back in 1999 it was held once a month with two or three stalls, but thanks to the increase in demand the market has now gone tri-monthly with between 15 and 20 stalls catering to hundreds of people every year.

“We’re really pleased to be part of Lincoln’s Farmers Market, with a lot of world-class food and drink being produced in the county it makes sense to source locally. One idea had been to make the anniversary map from local produce, but we’ll welcome any and all ideas.”

Lincoln’s Farmers Market is held on the first Friday, second Wednesday and third Saturday of every month.

Lincoln’s 10th annual farmers market will be held on 2nd October in City Square Lincoln.
