Wedding Fayre

Brides-to-be and their partners are being offered a fantastic opportunity to find everything they need for their dream wedding.

Lincoln BIG has thrown its support behind the Lincoln Wedding Fayre, which takes place in the Uphill area of the city on Sunday, October 4, 2009.

This “event with a difference” is the brainchild of Gill Hunter, who runsBrides of Bailgate, with her mother Irene Arthurs. Their boutique, which boasts its “own-label” gowns and other British and New York models, opened earlier this year – appropriately on Valentine’s Day!

Mrs Hunter said: “Although the fayre doesn’t take place until October, a lotof suppliers of wedding essentials, from cakemakers to photographers, have signed-up to take space. Ultimately, we could cater for 100 traders.

“This event is going to be different, because it is being staged across a range of different venues, which will give families planning a wedding a superb chance to see what various hotels can offer in the way of wedding and/or reception facilities.”

Hotels taking part, and housing some of the traders stalls, include the Lincoln Hotel, White Hart Hotel and Charlotte House, off Union Road. The Lawn is also taking part.

“We shall also be making use of Castle Hill, where different types of wedding transport, including a horse and carriage and limousines will be parked up.

“Another great thing about the fayre is that several shops have indicated that they will be open during the event, which runs from 10am to 4pm. They include traders in Steep Hill, Bailgate and at The Lawn,” said Mrs Hunter.

People will also be able to book tickets for stunning bridal fashion shows, taking place at 11am and 2pm at the Lawn.

And if it all gets too much for the gentlemen, local hotelier Jonathan Pass is setting up a “men’s crash pad” at the Victoria Pub (Union Road), where the guys can relax while the ladies get down to planning an unforgettable day.

Lincoln BIG events and promotions manager Michael Armstrong said: “We are delighted to see that so many traders, spread across the Uphill area of the city are enthusiastic about the wedding fayre.

“This is a great opportunity for families planning such a special occasion, to take a closer look at the wide range of businesses in this area, from hotels to shops, and see exactly what they can provide.”
