School’s out! Excited families are now counting the hours until the return of Lincoln’s hottest Summertime attraction – The Beach – with an exciting launch event planned.
Lincoln BIG and Visit Lincoln have planned weeks of unmissable holiday fun and parents and carers are being urged to head for the city centre and make the most of every moment!
From Monday (July 24th), children will be able to dig into the beach in City Square, which is being opened by Miss Lincolnshire 2017 - Daisy Pope - while the grown-ups relax in the beach-side deckchairs. There will also be a colourful fairground to ride, lots of Punch & Judy sessions to enjoy and plenty of refreshing ice cream on hand.
Then, on Saturday (July 29th), Visit Lincoln, together with Lincoln Mums and the county’s Heritage Services, will be “taking over” the area outside the Waterside Shopping Centre (just across from The Beach) to tell more families about Lincoln Loves Kids - a great guide bursting with information about lots more family-friends events and places to go.
Lincoln BIG Events and Marketing Assistant Jess Wickham said: “We can’t wait to welcome families back to The Beach, which is perfect for transporting children and adults to the seaside – without them having to travel for miles!
“This year, there really is something for everyone, from tiny tots to parents, grandparents and friends, in the heart of the city and there’s no need for families who are not able to travel away on holiday to feel disappointed.
“As well as The Beach, and to complement this year’s highly popular Lincoln Knights’ Trail, tomorrow (Saturday, July 22nd) we are launching Knights’ Central in the Cornhill, where we are running lots of activity sessions to keep the youngsters busy. And the following Saturday’s (July 29) Lincoln Loves Kids event is definitely not to be missed!.”
Lincoln Loves Kids aims to highlight how friendly and safe the city is for local and visiting families and is “taking over” The Beach and the area alongside Waterside Shopping Centre – over the River - to spread the word.
Visit Lincoln Business Development Executive Bryony Keep said: “We are kickstarting the summer with our free Lincoln Loves Kids event, which will be a day packed with fun and surprises.
“A number of great stallholders are joining us. Our fabulous Lincoln Loves Kids’ mascot, a giant yellow duck, is also coming along to give the children hugs, balloons and stickers and, of course, pose with them for some great “selfies.”
“Rand Farm Park is bringing some petting animals, Splat Messy Play is also attending. There’s face-painting from Lollipops and Puddle Ducks (which specialises in swimming lessons) and Mini Kicks which is a football club also offering classes) are also joining us.
“In keeping with our seaside and holiday-time theme, little fishers can try their luck in our “hook a duck” competition where they could win one of 25 amazing prizes.
“These have all been donated by businesses who belong to the online community group Lincoln Mums. The prizes range from a £100 photography session donated by Tiny Feet to a family ticket to Rand Farm Park, at Rand, near Wragby.”
The Beach is open daily between 10am and 4pm. The Lincoln Loves Kids event also runs from 10am to 4pm (July 29 only).
Lincoln’s successful Park & Ride Service is a great option for families driving into the city to enjoy Lincoln BIG’s summertime activities. Drivers can park at Waitrose, off Nettleham Road and catch the service from Mondays to Saturdays, between the hours of 7am (8am – Saturdays) and ride to the city’s temporary bus station in Tentercroft Street – a few minutes’ walk from the Cornhill and City Square.
Buses run roughly every 15 minutes, with the last bus returning to Nettleham Road at about 6.20pm (may vary). Adults are charged £2.50, but accompanied children travel for free.
