Excitement is building for thousands of schoolchildren, families and work colleagues, as the countdown to the launch of the Lincoln BIG Ice Rink –  on November 29  - gathers pace.

The rink, which takes 10 days to build, typically attracts 20,000 skaters and more than 3,000 skating sessions have already been booked by schools and community groups countywide.  Firms have also started to book corporate party sessions.

Businesses have also been eager to snap-up the high-profile advertising spaces around the perimeter of the rink, which is 25 metres long and 15 metres wide  – so firms still wishing to be included need to act fast.

Lincoln BIG Events & Promotions Organiser Rachel Hanson said: “Everything is looking good for the return of the ice rink – which will remain open from November 29 through until December 31 – only closing on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

“Once again, there’s a real buzz about our hugely popular Ice Rink and we’ve  had some early bookings.

“We are looking forward to the opening ceremony at 10am on November 29, which will be performed by Lincoln’s Mayor Councillor Brent Charlesworth, who will be accompanied by other members of the Civic Party, and Lincs FM presenter Ross Garrigan,” said Rachel.

“We will also be welcoming back top skater and ice skating teacher Kelly Hemingway and her students, who will be putting on a sparkling demonstration to get this attraction underway.”

Lincoln BIG’s team of Ambassadors are preparing to decorate the rink with lights and baubles, so that it looks its festive best.  The Business Improvement Group has also recruited a team of about 40 staff to greet skaters on their arrival and check them in for their sessions.

“This year we are offering extended family sessions, to enable those under the age of three to skate (although older children may skate too), and of course our popular penguin skating aids will be available to help children to make the most of their experience on the ice,” said Rachel..

“Watch out also for the opportunities to skate with Elsa & Anna from the film ‘Frozen’ during some of our family sessions”

The Ice Rink will be open every day – from Mondays to Sundays inclusive  - from 10am to 9pm. To book online, please see: visitlincoln.com/icerink.
