Lincoln BIG’s team is ready to celebrate the wonderful world of fashion – with the exciting launch of Lincoln Fashion Week (LFW)!
We’ve produced a fantastic programme crammed with exciting things to see and do for family members of all ages. There are activities and events galore and an amazing glittering finale Catwalk Show in Lincoln Cathedral on May 17.
That promises to be totally unmissable, so we are urging people to make sure they are there by going online and getting themselves a ticket – although there will be some, costing £10, at the door. Your online link is: www.visitlincoln.com/fashionfinale
But why wait for the final extravaganza? There’s so much to experience before then!
Today (Friday, May 10) look out for a colourful character with a loud voice and a bell, who will be “shouting all about it” and alerting shoppers and visitors to what all the excitement is about! He will be starting off from the Visitor Information Centre in Castle Hill and working his way down Steep Hill and through the High Street to St Marks Shopping Centre.
At the same time our LFW team members (in their striking purple shirts) will be giving out Fashion Week goody bags in celebration of our eight-day programme of events.
On May 10 there are a variety of ways people can tap into LFW vibe. House of Fraser, Primark, Marks & Spencer and Debenhams will be putting a new spin on their window dressing, by swapping their traditional mannequins for live models – that’s certainly worth looking out for.
Feeling artistic? Why not book yourself into the Fashion Live Drawing session at the Usher Gallery. It runs from 12 noon and 2pm (May 10) and you have the chance to sketch people wearing Victorian dress. Please visit: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/fashion-life-drawing-tickets-60569852058
Today (Friday), there’s a chance to take a peek at what tomorrow’s fashion industry stars are designing. University of Lincoln 2nd Year fashion students will be showcasing their work in The Fashion Collective at the Waterside Shopping Centre from 9am to 5.30pm.
Hold onto your hats - that’s just the start of a hectic fun week! Tomorrow, (Saturday, May 11) people can take a break at the Macmillan Victorian Tea Party (12 noon to 4pm) in the St Marks Station building, then look for a bargain at the Headlock Vintage Clothing Sale (10am to 5pm) at Home nightclub in Park Street.
It’s also Student Saturday – when they’ve got a brilliant opportunity to claim discounts galore with mainstream retailers in the City Centre – and the good news is that they can do it all again on Sunday (May 12)!
Mums and Dads, and their youngsters, can also enjoy a colourful Children’s Fashion Show in Debenhams on Sunday. Mini models will be strutting their stuff for a range of different national and independent retailers between 11am and 2.30pm. It’s a real family occasion.
Get rid of the Monday blues by exploring Fashion Through the Ages on May 13. It’s a chance to lose yourself in a fascinating exhibition at The Venue at Bishop Grosseteste University, between 2.30pm and 4.30pm. Best of all, it’s Free.
Anyone desperate for some professional hairstyling tips will be keen to make a beeline for Talking Heads demonstrations in the Waterside Shopping Centre on Tuesday (May 14). Enjoy watching the stylists at work and ask a few sneaky questions! Just make sure you’re in the Centre between 11am and 1pm or 1.30pm and 3pm.
On Wednesday (May 15) there’s a Size Inclusive Fashion Extravanganza hosted by Sara Bird, the brains behind SqWears Couture. It is taking place at The Showroom, off Tritton Road, from 6pm to 8pm.

You can also support LFW’s partner Macmillan Cancer Support during the day, by taking a break at the Macmillan Coffee Morning in the Waterside Shopping Centre, from 10am to 2pm.
On Thursday (May 16), there’s more inspiration on offer for anyone keen to look their best, during Lincoln Beauty Day which runs from 10am to 2pm citywide. Now for the “big one”! On Friday night (May 17) it’s the LFW Catwalk Finale in Lincoln Cathedral, which is being hosted by BBC Radio Lincolnshire’s Scott Dalton and Carla Green, when we will be toasting another fantastic week with a glass of bubbly. If you haven’t got your ticket yet, hurry – you simply have to be there!
