But, the nine-year-old, who came-up with the winning name for Lincoln BIG’s great gumbuster machine – CHEWY CHEW – will have to share his prize with his two brothers, Lincoln (seven) and Eddie (two).

Lincoln BIG who launched the chewing gum removal machine and chewing gum disposal papers onto the city’s streets last month - with the support of Lincolnshire Co-op, the City of Lincoln Council,  the Lindum Group and Optima Graphic Design Consultants  - threw a challenge down to youngsters under the age of 12 to give the Gumbuster a name.

And today, A J and his family, who live in uphill Lincoln, got a closer look at the machine and the thrilled youngster was presented with a fabulous prize of indoor and outdoor games by our generous sponsor, city store The Entertainer, based at St Marks Retail Park.

AJ was also excited to hear that the Gumbuster’s new name – which has been produced on a car registration-style number plate –  was being attached to the machine.

AJ said: “Chewing gum is chewy and I thought it would be good to call the machine Chewy Chew because it chews it up.  I was really chuffed to win and I am looking forward to sharing my prize with my family."

Assistant Manager at The Entertainer Jayne Baker said: “We were thrilled to be asked to donate a prize of a selection of indoor and outdoor games for this competition.  We work closely with Lincoln BIG, which is doing a lot behind the scenes to get the High Street going.”

Lincoln BIG Chief Executive Sarah Loftus said; “We thought it would be a great idea to run a competition for children on two counts.  There is an educational aspect to showing environmentally-conscious youngsters what is being done to care for Lincoln’s street scene and, as the adults of tomorrow, we decided they were the right people to challenge to come up with a name for the Gumbuster.

"Well done to AJ.  We hope he and his brothers have a brilliant time trying out their new games over the Easter holidays and beyond.”
