People looking for a unique way to celebrate this year’s 100th Anniversary of the Royal Air Force (RAF100) are being encouraged to get on board an unmissable rail trip.
Lincoln BIG is keen to remind people that a special train will be leaving Lincoln and heading to London’s Kings Cross on July 10, for a major event. Passengers can also travel from Sleaford and Peterborough.
Travellers will be pulled by the steam train Tornado and in London can enjoy a flypast of up to 100 current and historic RAF aircraft, as well as a stunning parade of personnel from the service.
The tour, which is being promoted by the Darlington-based A1 Steam Locomotive Trust (A1SLT), will see all profits go towards keeping Tornado running on the mainline in future years.
People can choose from two fantastic packages, as well as dining and First Class seating.
The Platinum Package include travel in First Class Dining, where passengers will be treated to a Champagne breakfast on the way to London and a four-course evening meal on the return journey.
Transfers in London from Kings Cross to The Mall and return are also part of the deal, as well as access to the rooftop terrace of the Trafalgar Hotel, which sits directly under the flight path, so they can enjoy an unrivalled view with lunch.
In the afternoon, people also get access to a special event on Horseguards, where they can see various aircraft close up and ask their RAF host questions.
The Gold Package includes full travel on the special train with Champagne breakfast on the outward journey and a four-course meal on the return. It also features access to the rooftop bar of the Trafalgar Hotel, with lunch included. From this point they will get a grandstand view of the RAF Flypast. The organisers are also offering travel in First Class dining, First Class non-Dining and Standard Class.
Tornado will leave Lincoln at approximately 6.45am and return at 7pm.
Prices range from £99 for a Standard Class ticket to £750 per person for the Platinum Package.
Lincoln BIG Chief Executive Matt Corrigan said: “This unique trip is a wonderful way for people to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the RAF and reflect this branch of the armed forces’ significance to Lincolnshire in both times of conflict and peace.”
