It was confirmed at a VIP Event in Lincoln’s Guildhall that one of Lincoln’s most popular events, which attracts a huge following from across the UK and beyond, will return in 2019 – and it promises to be even “more splendid!”
The Asylum Steampunk Festival has an amazing following, with enthusiasts flocking to the city to be part of a fascinating weekend packed with quirky activities – and locals and visitors turning out in force to marvel at a dazzling array of “out of this world” costumes.
Now, after a decade of brilliant weekends, Lincoln BIG – with the support of the City of Lincoln Council and Lincolnshire County Council - is teaming-up with organisers John and Karen Naylor to make the city’s 2019 weekend, which takes place from Friday to Monday, August 23 to 26, even more spectacular and much more inclusive.
Lincoln BIG Chief Executive Sarah Loftus said: “We know Steampunks absolutely love coming to Lincoln for their annual gathering and that their special weekend, with its amazing events, including tea duelling competitions, wacky races inside Lincoln Castle, illicit market and much more, really intrigues locals and visitors.
“So, this year, we are working more closely with the organisers and starting to explore ways of extending the footprint of this highly successful event, by inviting more city businesses and organisations to get involved.
“We are really keen to hear from any Lincoln BIG levy payer who wants to work with us, whether it is a shop, pub, club or entertainments venue. We are thinking about opportunities for them but, equally, we would also love to hear their ideas,” said Sarah.
“We’re open to considering all sorts of suggestions for spin-off attractions. These may have a musical, theatrical or comedy theme, or something entirely different, to make it a great weekend for all throughout the city.
Businesses and organisations are urged to initially get in touch with the Lincoln BIG Events Team by email or by calling (01522) 545233.
