Lincoln’s 1940s Weekend Delights Crowds Despite the Rain
Lincoln was transformed this past weekend as visitors stepped back in time for the much-loved 1940s Weekend, bringing vintage flair, live entertainment, classic vehicles, and a true wartime spirit to the streets.
Despite the showers, the event was a roaring success with umbrellas up and spirits high, crowds came out in force to enjoy the wide-ranging programme of music, performances, living history, vintage cars, and themed competitions.
From lively swing performances by the Lincolnshire Lindy Hop Clubs to the stirring Winston Churchill reenactments, the city buzzed with energy and nostalgia. Visitors described the atmosphere as “wonderful”, “a great day had by all”, and “such a fantastic community feel throughout the weekend.”
Competition Winners Announced
A huge thank you goes to all who dressed up and got involved — and to those who took part in our friendly competitions:
Best Dressed Market Stall – Lorraine White, Curly Nook Jewellery
Best Period Vehicle – 1936 Austin 18 York Saloon, exhibited by LVVS, presented by Mr. Churchill himself
Best Dressed Team – Bunty’s Tea Room
Best Dressed Shop – Linkage
All winners received certificates, judged by independent supporters and special guests including performers and partners.
A City-Wide Celebration
Visitors also enjoyed exploring vintage cars on display in Minster Yard and Castle grounds, catching the replica Spitfire at Lincoln Castle, and sampling wartime recipes with the Army Field Kitchen Living History Group.
From Cathedral Quarter to Castle Square and St Paul in the Bail, the city was alive with 1940s music, costumes, and colour with many taking advantage of Lincoln’s Park & Ride and Tour Bus (where kids rode free!) to make the most of the festivities.
Looking Ahead
Organisers have already had requests for next year’s date, and with such brilliant community spirit, there’s no doubt the event will return — bigger and better.
Keep an eye on social media over the coming days for a photo gallery celebrating all the fun and fashion of the weekend.
Thank you to everyone who came, participated, performed, and powered through the rain. Lincoln, you did us proud.
